15 Upcoming Comic Book Movie Performances That Will Kick Ass

1. Tom Hardy As Venom

The Film: Venom

When it was initially announced that Sony were pressing ahead with a Venom movie that not only wouldn't star Tom Holland's Spider-Man but would also be in an entirely different continuity to the MCU, it looked like a major gamble. The subsequent hint that it would be an R-rated sci-fi horror was a big improvement on that initial foundation, and now the casting of Tom Hardy takes it all the way through interesting to essential.

Hardy has always done incredibly well with intense characters who require interesting characterisation (hence his odd tendency to make understanding him a little difficult), so it's the perfect fit. It will hopefully also mean that we see two Hardy performances - one as the slightly unhinged Eddie Brock and one as the completely off-the-chain Venom.

There's no way Sony should fall into the trap of simply making Venom a completely CGI creation with no recognisable performance capture in there (which is exactly how Spider-Man 3's version did), and burying Hardy would be ludicrous. His take on the character - which is surely destined to be an anti-hero rather than a villain - has quickly jumped to the top of the most anticipated charts.
