Why It's Doomed: James Cameron has been developing a movie based on the popular manga for almost 20 years, initially planning to direct the film himself.

However, with the Avatar sequels keeping him busy for the foreseeable future, Cameron has gifted his baby to Robert Rodriguez, a filmmaker with zero experience directing $200 million tentpoles.

Though betting against Cameron has generally been pretty foolish, it's hard to imagine such an expensive movie based on such a niche property, with a fairly unknown lead actress (Rosa Salazar) no less, actually connecting with audiences.

Rodriguez's involvement is already enough to cast doubt on its quality, and though Cameron has co-written the film, his writing partner is one of the minds behind Terminator Genisys. Yeesh.
