15 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed (And Why)

14. Jungle Book

Andy Serkis Jungle Book
Warner Bros.

Release Date: October 19, 2018

Why It's Doomed: For starters, Jon Favreau beat Andy Serkis to the punch with last year's immensely successful The Jungle Book, and it seems incredibly unlikely that audiences are going to flock to see a retelling of the story a mere two-and-a-half years later.

Oddly, the film was originally called Jungle Book: Origins, which at least differentiated it from the previous movie a little, yet at some point Warner Bros. foolishly opted to make its title resemble the Favreau movie even more closely. Don't be surprised if the title changes again before release, because otherwise, that could be a major deterrent for casual audiences.

Though Serkis is of course a master of performance capture and he's got an embarrassingly excellent cast, including Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett and Naomie Harris, it's just tough to imagine this version bringing enough new to the table to be worth all the trouble.
