Why It's Doomed: Though Alicia Vikander seems like a fine fit for Lara Croft, pretty much everything else about this movie looks...not good, with the first trailer suggesting a bland, CGI-slathered retread of the 2013 video game reboot.

The effects look mediocre, the action seems overly silly for the gritty tone it's trying to strike, and it simply appears destined to be yet another video game movie that fails to strike a chord with audiences or critics.

It just might do passable box office numbers off brand identity alone, but you can bet Warner Bros. will end up thinking twice about whether to pursue a sequel.

Though the budget is clearly a little more modest than, say, last year's glossy Assassin's Creed adaptation, it'll still need a not-so-minor miracle to be a box office smash, not to mention that rarest of things: a critically acclaimed video game movie.
