15 Upcoming Movies That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome
4. Ghost In The Shell
Release Date: March 31, 2017
Why It Should Suck: It's a westernised adaptation of the legendary manga with whitewashed casting and a PG-13 rating, which will surely result in an unfaithful, toned down adaptation that strips everything interesting away in order to appeal to as large an audience as possible.
Why It Might Be Awesome: On the other hand, the little we've seen so far suggests a movie with characters who do for the most part resemble their manga counterparts (whiteness notwithstanding), and considering that the previous anime adaptation felt rather incoherent at times, perhaps a live-action take might prove a little easier to follow.
Plus, the cast (Scarlett Johansson, Michael Pitt, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche and Rila Fukushima) is rock solid, it's being written by the guy behind Straight Outta Compton and director Rupert Sanders proved himself a fine stylist with Snow White and the Huntsman.
If fans are prepared to be open-minded towards some changes, this could be one of 2017's most pleasant surprises and get blockbuster season off to a sprinting start.
