Why It Should Suck: When a director as talented as Cary Fukunaga bails from a project, it's probably time to get worried, especially after he sunk several years of life into it. New director Andrés Muschietti is a fairly middling choice as his one feature to date, Mama, was atmospheric but ultimately quite hollow, and fairly unknown actor Bill Skarsgård playing a character as iconic as Pennywise leaves plenty of room for disaster.
Why It Might Be Awesome: It's important to remember that the movie is still following the core of Fukunaga's script, even if was rewritten following his departure.
Plus, it's not so much that the movie has any bad talents working for it, merely untested ones who could easily blow us all away as much as they might disappoint us.
And remember, as brilliant as Tim Curry was in the original TV movie, that film had some incredibly corny stuff in it, namely that dreadful spider finale. This new take will also tout an R-rating, which is always good news.
