1. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Release Date: July 7, 2017 Why It Could Suck: Because the last good movie in the series came out in 2006, and it seems like the franchise has become increasingly lazy and more bloated ever since. With a ridonculous $350 million budget (albeit smaller than the previous movie's staggering $378.5 million price tag, which remains the most expensive film ever made), it's surely going to be another exercise in style over substance, featuring more of Johnny Depp's sadly played-out Jack Sparrow antics. Why It Might Be Surprisingly Awesome: The real hope here comes from Norwegian directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, who helmed the Oscar-nominated film Kon-Tiki, which subsequently won them this role, what with its focus on an aquatic adventure, achieving a great deal more entertainment than the third or fourth POTC films on about 5% of the budget. Perhaps the five-year gap between movies will be just what the series needs, and maybe a script from Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me if You Can, The Terminal) can help bring a fresh voice to the series. Then again, Nathanson did also write Speed 2, Rush Hour 3 and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull...
