6. Glenn Close - Bastards

The Role: Helen Baxter, the mother of Peter (Ed Helms) and Kyle (Owen Wilson), who explains that she doesn't know who their father is, setting them off on a road trip to find out once and for all.

Why She'll Be Wasted: It's clear from the trailer alone that Close is only going to be in the movie for a few scenes, to get the plot in motion and then to reconvene with her kids at the end.

Close is obviously miles above something like this but to her credit tends to keep the money parts fairly minimal and often in voiceover form only. She'll get away with this, though it's a shame she's probably not going to get a more developed part that might actually harness her largely untapped comic talents.
