5. Killjoy the Clown - Killjoy (2000)
Now this is an original evil clown. And he's pretty scary looking, too. A young man uses black magic to bring his boyhood clown doll to life to exact revenge on a gang member who beat and humiliated him over a girl (what else?). Naturally, the clown rages out of control and goes on a slashing spree. We even get an alternate realm and an ice cream truck that serves as the gateway. Another great one to watch on Halloween night. And don't forget Killjoy 2: Deliverance From Evil, Killjoy 3, and Killjoy Goes to Hell. Destined to be cult classics (if they aren't already), the Killjoy movies are a must-see batch of films for the horror enthusiast.
4. Clownhouse (1989)
As I've mentioned previously, I prefer my evil clowns to be inhuman. However, there are some good horror movies involving dressed as clowns. This is one of those movies. A young boy (Nathan Forest Winters) is deathly afraid of clowns, yet is still heading to a circus with his older brothers. By an unpleasant twist of fate, three psychopaths have murdered the circus' clowns and assumed their identities. After some town folk are murdered, the boys figure out they're in danger and retreat to their dark, rundown mansion home. The murderous clowns follow, and a battle for survival ensues. The DVD release of this film was cancelled at the request of the family of Nathan Forest Winters, who was allegedly sexually abused by writer and director Victor Salva resulting in a prison sentence for Salva, making this film an expensive rarity. If you can afford a copy and ignore the history, pick it up. The movie is pretty good.
