15 Weirdest Ever Batman Movie Tie-In Toys

6. Zipline Blaster - The Dark Knight Rises

Batman Water Gun 1
Mattel

Mattel fine-tuned their line of Nolanverse Batman toys by the time of The Dark Knight Rises. They were better balancing the darker tone of the movies, turning out a more well-thought out line of toys.

But this one … well, it's odd.

What this life-sized grappling gun did was fire a soft dart that dragged a zipline with it, just like the Dark Knight uses to get around Gotham without having to rely on a bus pass.

So far, so good.

However, since there was no possible way that Mattel could make anything that would actually support a child, they included a small Batman with a harness who rode the zipline.

So, the child playing with the gun, a gun that is the proper size for such a device, launches a line across the room (ideally at something the dart would stick to,) then, to actually do anything with it, they have to take a small version of the hero they want to be and slide it down the line.

Why didn't they design this like a cannon or some large device that was at the same scale as the Batman figure? Or take the figure out of the equation entirely and just let kids fire grappling lines?

It's a fair guess many of these lines were fired at younger siblings.
