15 Worst Months To Go To The Movies Since The Year 2000

1. February 2001

Head Over HeelsNumber Of Movies Released: 10 Rotten Tomatoes average: 31% Number of Movies Receiving Lower Than 40%: 7 We finish this list with - you guessed it - the month of February. Yes, thirteen years ago today, we were just wrapping up one of the worst movie months of all-time. With 7 out of 10 films receiving less than 20% on Rotten Tomatoes, it's not hard to consider why it was so bad. Let's take a full look at the stats. 10 movies were released in February 2001. Nine of those 10 movies had lower than 40% and 7 of those 9 movies were lower than 20%. The three highest rated films that month were Recess: School's Out (61%), Hannibal (39%), and Super Troopers (35%). Now, Super Troopers has gone on to become a cult classic and Hannibal was hugely successful in the box office, but there are no excuses for the rest of these movies. We had another Freddie Prinze Jr. rom-com, Head Over Heels (10%); Valentine (9%), whose Nu Metal soundtrack was parodied on Saturday Night Live at the time; the Chris Rock comedy Down To Earth (20%); and a movie featuring Brendan Fraser and - yes - a monkey called Monkeybone (20%). Monkeybone actually turned out to a giant flop at the time, too. The movie was made on a $75 million budget, but only grossed $7 million. Did you know that one of the taglines for Monkeybone was "Bone 2 B Bad"? How did that make it through the marketing department? Fans of Breaking Bad should take note, though, that Giancarlo Esposito (Gus Fring in the show) has a role in Monkeybone. Even stranger than that, his Breaking Bad co-star Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman) appears in the movie as well. So, if you wanna see your favorite Breaking Bad stars in a terrible movie, pick up Monkeybone today! Or, you know, don't. Like this list? Let us know in the comments section below.
