15 Worst Movie Moments Of 2016
12. Aldrich's Death - Hard Target 2
CGI can be a fantastic tool if applied correctly. It can extend a set, clean up or enhance special effects or add fantastical creatures. If it’s applied poorly it can be needlessly distracting, though, which was the case with Hard Target 2, the straight to DVD sequel to Van Damme’s 1993 classic.
The villain is a sleazy dude who tricks the hero into taking part in a game where he’s hunted by bored rich people in Thailand. In the climax, the hero has outsmarted the villain and paid off the military to kill him. They do this by shooting him full of CGI bullets, resulting in CGI blood spray that for some reason, never seems to rip or stain his clothes.
It’s a glaringly cheap looking and robs the scene of the cathartic feeling it’s supposed to have, and makes you long for the time they just used bloody squibs.
