15 Worst Movie Moments Of 2017

6. All The Dark Universe Hype - The Mummy

Though there are many, many things wrong with the Tom Cruise-starring The Mummy reboot, the absolute worst thing about it is how blatantly it hypes up the planned (and pretty much already dead) Dark Universe.

Mid-way through the film, Sofia Boutella's Ahmanet is captured, and what follows is effectively a 20-minute advertisement for coming attractions, as Cruise's Nick Morton meets Dr. Henry Jekyll (Russell Crowe).

Crowe then takes an epic exposition dump that establishes the secret society known as Prodigium, around which all the Dark Universe monsters would presumably revolve, while briefly showing off his transformation into Mr. Hyde.

It all feels like it belongs in a different movie and reeks of Universal being over-eager to build their cinematic universe without first delivering at least one good movie. Now that the Dark Universe probably isn't happening, it's going to look mighty strange to anyone who actually bothers to rewatch the film some years in the future.
