15 Worst Movie Moments Of 2017

And finally, the worst movie moment from 2017 occurs in what's decisively also the worst movie of 2017: The Emoji Movie. It is, of course, a film jam-packed with product placement for various phone apps such as Instagram, Dropbox and Twitter, but never does this shilling feel more obnoxious than during an extended set-piece taking place inside the Just Dance app.

The scene features our "hero" Gene (T.J. Miller) and his friends Hi-5 (James Corden) and Jailbreak (Anna Faris) facing off against the app's dance instructor Akiko Glitter (Christina Aguilera), having to dance like their lives depend on it, because they literally do.

This sequence, in which Aguilera's character explicitly explains the rules of Just Dance, drags on for over five grotesque minutes, forcing the audience to suffer through several dance numbers in the process.

The worst thing about it all, though, is that Sony is shamelessly marketing phone apps to children who don't know any better. Cinema certainly didn't get anymore gross or patronising in 2017.
