The Scene: After Dawson (James Marsden) and Amanda (Michelle Monaghan) reconnect as adults, they go their separate ways after a brief fling, with Amanda going back to her strained marriage. However, Amanda ultimately leaves Dawson a voicemail telling him she loves him, but soon thereafter, he gets into a fight with his cruel brothers at the train tracks, and his father shoots him dead. Later, Amanda's son is involved in a car accident and receives a donor heart, after which Amanda learns of Dawson's death. A year later, Amanda's son is able to find out the identity of his donor, and of course, it's Dawson. Why It Sucked: Even for the low standards of a Nicholas Sparks adaptation, this borders so close to self-parody it's practically impossible to take seriously. Even ignoring the obvious issues with heart transplant donors usually going on a list and the sheer unlikelihood of Amanda's son getting Dawson's heart, it's trying way too hard to tug at the audience's heart strings, and as such is totally, hilariously off-putting.
