12. Al Pacino - Misconduct

Worst Performances 2016
Lionsgate Premiere

This debut effort from director Shintaro Shimosawa is a vaguely neo-noir thriller about an ambitious lawyer who decides he has to bend the rules during litigation against a corrupt tycoon. Ben finds himself caught up in a power struggle between a corrupt pharmaceutical executive and the firm's partner, and when he begins to uncover the truth about the pair things get interesting. At least, that's where things are supposed to get interesting.

While Josh Duhamel was given equal billing to two big stars of a bygone era, in actual fact he is left to anchor the film, a job that he quite frankly isn't up to. You can't fault his effort, he just lacks that certain something that his supposed co-stars used to have in spades, Al Pacino in particular.

The Scarface and Godfather star portrays Charles Abrams here, senior partner in the pharmaceutical company being investigated by Duhamel. The scenes that the pair share are flat and unconvincing, with Pacino going through his paces in painfully sluggish fashion.

As a film with some notable faces to boast but zero love from the critics (8% on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing) it seems destined for life on VOD.

Phil still hasn't got round to writing a profile yet, as he has an unhealthy amount of box sets on the go.
