11. Anthony Hopkins - Misconduct

Worst Performances 2016
Paramount

Al Pacino wasn't the only former great who turned up on the set of Misconduct for a few days of well-paid work that he quite clearly didn't care about. While Pacino barely got out of first gear, Hopkins was positively pedestrian as corrupt pharmaceutical executive Arthur Denning.

From his embezzlement to his drug-fuelled mistress, everything about Denning screams by-the-numbers bad guy, though Hopkins comes across as a man who endures his own villainy rather than enjoys it. It is a soulless performance from an actor who has proven his worth over the years and has gotten to the point where he isn't afraid to make a quick buck on a derivative cr*pfest.

Neither Al Pacino nor Anthony Hopkins can shoulder all the blame for the way Misconduct turned out, however. Yes, they allowed themselves to be dragged down to the B-movie level of their fellow cast members when they should have been setting an example, but Shintaro Shimosawa - whose only major(ish) credit is working as a co-producer on the US remake of The Grudge - made certain his film never stood a chance with some bizarre directing decisions.
