Discussions of both Brexit and Donald Trump filled many of the night's election speeches from winners both British and not, though none hit quite as hard as when Curzon CEO Philip Knatchbull came to the stage to collect an award for an Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema.

Knatchbull ensured his time on stage wasn't just an extended advertisement for his cinema chain, but stressed how Brexit removing EU funding could result in less challenging films getting to the production stage.

It's a depressing but vital statement about the future of British filmmaking and distribution, one that was smartly spoken on a huge stage.
