4. Carrie Fisher - Princess Leia Organa

Through the wonders of technology and a smattering of unused scenes originally shot for Episode VII, J.J. Abrams is doing right by Fisher, her family and the fans.

Stating on the Star Wars official page, he said:

“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher [...] Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”

Just how malleable the footage is, whether we're getting an on-screen death/funeral scene or whatever else remains to be seen, but it is good to know Abrams and the team are putting Fisher's memory first, letting the character bow out the franchise with the appropriate degree of care.
