16 Actors Who Starred In More Than One Comic Book Movie Series

12. Martin Sheen - The Amazing Spider-Man/Spawn

Having traversed genres without prejudice since his first appearance way back in the 1950s, it was somewhat inevitable that the man who gave the world Charlie Sheen would eventually come to the comic book movie genre. And as the rebooted Spider-Man franchise's version of Uncle Ben, Sheen was perfectly cast - a mellowed but no less captivating human presence who gave the film's initial message of responsibility and self real meaning. It was a far removal from the days of Apocalypse Now, but there's a hint that Captain Willard might well have grown old into a similar form - assuming the ghosts of his past didn't irrevocably changed him. Sheen's Uncle Ben transmitted the idea of a past, which was entirely necessary in his position of power and wisdom, and a lot of that comes down to the casting decision and the actor's familiarity with audiences. But the character is a veritable leap away from his first appearance in the genre, when he played the villainous Jason Wynn for 1997's much-maligned adaptation of Spawn. Though the film is continually (and rather unfairly) panned, Sheen's performance channelled some of the original image of Wynn as Genghis Khan, and he is a genuinely unlikable villainous presence.
