16 Actors Who Starred In More Than One Comic Book Movie Series

10. Ray Stevenson - Thor/Punisher: War Zone

The hulking English actor, whose finest work arguably came with his villainous turn in Dexter, seems to have graduated to become the go-to large actor who plays interesting but not leading henchmen and supporting muscle type characters since making the switch to Hollywood after cutting his teeth on British TV. So it was somewhat inevitable that he would be considered for the role of Marvel's baddest anti-hero after his eye-catching role in Rome. Sadly, as seems to be the way with Punisher movies, War Zone stumbled and failed, and Stevenson was jettisoned from the franchise in favour of Thomas Jane, who fared slightly better in the role, though not enough to make the character a bankable property once more. In truth, Stevenson was not terrible as The Punisher, and the movie itself actually deserves more praise than it has ever received, which is perhaps why nobody at Marvel vetoed Stevenson's subsequent casting as large, hairy Asgardian Volstagg for Kenneth Branagh's Thor. But then, in both Thor movies, Stevenson has very little to do, playing little more than a sizable Porthos clone, and being almost entirely cast off in the sequel along with the rest of the supporting cast.
