16 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Matrix Trilogy

7. Morpheus Should Have Died (Revolutions)

Going back to the earlier point that Trinity should have stayed dead in Reloaded, her death in Revolutions should have been replaced by that of Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne). In many ways, Morpheus has always been the soul of The Matrix series, the beating heart, the powerful leader, and the one who believed in both Neo and the prophecy. Given that he's also an infinitely more likeable and interesting character than Trinity, seeing him fall at the last hurdle just ahead of Neo's battle with Smith would have been much more emotionally wrenching than seeing Trinity get killed off for basically the second time in as many movies. Considering it was Morpheus who helped Neo become who he was, there would have been a certain gravity to him dying and urging Neo to finish his mission in his final words. Instead, Trinity dies for real, and nobody really gives a crap.
