8. The "Zion Is Part Of The Matrix" Fan Theory Should Be Canon

For years, there has been a fascinating theory doing the rounds online that Zion is not, in fact, the real world, but merely another layer of The Matrix, a simulation of freedom that the Redpills are permitted to escape to, in order to convince them that they have, in fact, woken up and as such do not attempt to find the real, real world. The two major clues lie in the fact that Smith's possession of Bane continues to take hold even after Bane jacks out of The Matrix, and the fact that Neo is shown to possess powers after jacking out at the end of Reloaded. Before Revolutions was released, it was widely expected that this revelation would come to light, yet in the end, it turned out to be nothing more than a red herring. In fact, given how underwhelming Revolutions was, especially pertaining to its ending, it's a shame the Wachowskis didn't opt for this ending, for though it would likely have opened up a number of plot holes, it would at least have been a lot more interesting and thought-provoking than the anti-climax viewers ended up with.
