1. The Bat Trance - Batman

There's a lot said about the preparation various actors have gone through to get into their characters on Batman movies, with the greatest focus inevitably on villains because of their most ostentatious performances. The oversight of Michael Keaton's subtle, artful craft of Bruce Wayne and Batman in Tim Burton's first movie in that discussion is unjustly reductive.

Keaton channelled his other-wordly oddness and natural awkwardness into creating a beautiful portrait of Wayne, but one of his bolder choices never made it into the movie. In addition to using another voice to distinguish Wayne and Batman, he pitched the idea of Bruce going into a "Bat trance" - a state designed to help him transition into Batman and to help signal further difference.

It was classed as a good enough idea to film, but it has so far not emerged in any format.

Why It Was Cut

Apparently, Tim Burton felt - quite rightly - that the scene was redundant, perhaps because Keaton's twin-performances were already distinct enough from each other. Quite why the footage hasn't appeared on a special edition yet remains a mystery.
