16 Great Recent Movies The Oscars Outrageously Snubbed

1. The Lego Movie

Drive Ryan Gosling
Warner Bros.

Nominated For:

Best Original Song. Wait a minute, where's the nomination for Best Animated Feature?!

This one is just a shocking outrage through and through. Sure, most of the Academy members probably don't play with Lego anymore, but that's no excuse. It was not only the most popular animated film of the year, but also one of the year's very best films.

It was a line-up of well-liked films that year but The Lego Movie beat most of them in terms of critical acclaim and popularity. It also happens to be one of the most visually stunning animated films ever, since it actually looks like stop-motion most of the time.

Overall, it is one of the most enjoyable films you'll ever watch. With terrific action sequences, gut-bursting comedy, thoughtful messages and pop culture nods dropping left, right and center, it's simply wonderful from start to finish. The Oscar-nominated song 'Everything is Awesome' is not only one of the decade's biggest ear-worms, but also summarizes the entire film better than any plot summary.

So yeah, it not being nominated for Best Animated Feature is maybe the single worst Oscar snub of the decade so far. Come to think of it, it deserved nods for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay too, but the Academy would never have given it such recognition. An animated kids blockbuster would never stand a chance, not matter how great it was.

Oh well, who needs Oscars anyway?
