16 Great Recent Movies The Oscars Outrageously Snubbed

10. The Adventures Of Tintin

Drive Ryan Gosling
Paramount

Nominated For:

Best Original Score, but not for Best Animated Feature as everyone would've expected. It lost the one award it was nominated for to The Artist.

This one still hurts all these years later. This was the Tintin film we'd all wanted to see for many years. An action-packed, eccentric and utterly gorgeous adventure film which completely captures the spirit of the masterful source material, this Steven Spielberg blockbuster was, come to think of it, the best Spielberg film of the last 10 years.

Obviously, it doesn't live up to the comic books or the wonderful cartoon TV show adaptation, but it's still a jolly good effort. The only possible explanation as to why this one wasn't nominated for Best Animated Feature is that it's done in motion-capture, which perhaps moves away from what would traditionally be considered animated. Otherwise, there's just no figuring this one out.

Given that 2 of the 5 nominees were foreign animated films most hadn't even heard of, there was definitely room for Tintin. Whether or not it would have won is a different matter, but they could have at least had the decency to acknowledge what an achievement in animation this was.

Looking on the bright side, the BAFTAs and Golden Globes got this right. It won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film and got a BAFTA nod, although it lost to Rango.
