16 Horror Films Worth Getting Excited About In 2016
15. The Boy
In general, horror films released in January tend to be pretty awful. It's the month where studios dump all the films they have no faith in, and so the fact that The Boy is coming out around this time is concerning. Hopefully it can break the trend, though, because the first trailer is fantastically creepy.
In The Boy, a woman is hired as a nanny and tasked to take care of a young boy, but when she arrives, she discovers that the "boy" is actually just a porcelain doll. The parents think he's real, though, and they give Greta a whole set of rules for taking care of him.
Very quickly, it becomes clear that the doll is alive.
There haven't been a whole lot of killer doll movies in recent memory. Sure there was Annabelle, but that doesn't even really count since the titular doll never once moves the entire time. Few horror fans can be clamouring for a new entry with a walking, talking, stabbing doll, and The Boy appears to be just that.
Though the director has made some dreadful films in the past like Stay Alive and The Devil Inside, maybe this will be the one to turn his career around. It's either going to be really good or really bad, with not much middle ground.
