At the base of Mount Fuji in Japan lies Aokigahara, a real life location more terrifying than anything a horror writer could dream up. This forest has become famous as the place where people go to kill themselves, and over the past few decades, there have been literally thousands of deaths here.

Sounds like the perfect setting for a horror movie, doesn't it?

In The Forest, Natalie Dormer will be taking a break from Westeros to play Sara, a girl whose twin sister has disappeared in Aokigahara. She heads in with a small group, and obviously things do not go well.

In addition to the spirits of the dead coming to haunt them, it appears The Forest will also play with the terror of becoming lost in a vast sea of greenery, as Aokigahara is infamous for being incredibly difficult to navigate. For that reason, tourists will put plastic tape on trees as they go by in order to keep track of where they've been.

Yes, there are actually tourists who go here for some ungodly reason.

It's another January release, which usually spells trouble, but the premise of The Forest is incredibly intriguing, and if nothing else it'll be fun to see Natalie Dormer play the lead character in a horror flick.
