16 Pirates Of The Caribbean Easter Eggs You Probably Missed

1. The Extremely Obscure References

Alongside the pirate references and nods to the ride, there's also another level of Easter Eggs and quirky references entirely that are close to impossible to spot the first time.

First off, Captain Barbossa wears an Eagle Scout ring, for some reason, suggesting he's just a Boy Scout gone off the rails. And the running joke of the Pirate Code being "not rules, more like guidelines" that Barbossa shares with Sparrow and Elizabeth seems to be included in homage to Terry Pratchett's Soul Music, which has the same joke.

Then there's the fact that the pair of doomed sailors quarrelling over Jack's hat in Dead Man's Chest personify political tensions over the division of Cyprus. Both speak Cypriot, but one speaks the Turkish-Cypriot dialect, while the other is Greek-Cypriot, perhaps explaining why they can't just share the hat.
