17 Actors You Didn't Know Almost Played The Avengers

9. Dolph Lundgren Was Almost Captain America

Another nod for the awful 1990 Captain America that Stan Lee so unfeasibly loved even before it was "fixed" by reshoots; and an actor who wouldn't have fit the agenda to cast someone who could play Steve Rogers both before and after his transformation. The film-makers initially intended to cast two actors as a result, but another awful comic book property got in the way, and paved the course for Matt Salinger to be cast.

Lundgren was too busy being the first actor to fail to bring The Punisher to screen, and was spared the potentially damaging association with the Cap production that ran two years late, and suffered catastrophic financial problems. He was also spared the ignominy of having to wear a Cap suit with ear holes that chaffed so badly that they had to use plastic ears to save Salinger's real ones.
