Nobody asked for an R-rated big-screen adaptation of the 70s/80s cop TV show CHiPS, but writer-director-star Dax Shepard did it for himself anyway.

Large swathes of this film are just not funny: the gay panic jokes in particular are pretty much tailor-made to offend people, and overall it feels lazy and underwritten.

But the two-hander between leads Shepard and Michael Pena does prove entertaining to a point, there's an all-timer Oscar Pistorius joke, and it's quick and easy to watch when you're hungover and want nothing remotely mentally taxing to sit through.

It's pretty much tailor-made to sit on a mothballed Netflix server for people to discover on a lazy Sunday afternoon when they can't bring themselves to move out of bed.
