There's no denying that this adaptation of Stephen King's legendary novel series was a colossal disappointment, making a fairly flat YA-esque fantasy yarn out of the acclaimed source material.

And yet, there's still something to the film, in the bizarre creative choices it makes and the charismatic performances of Idris Elba, Tom Taylor and Matthew McConnaughey.

The film's just weird enough to still be interesting, hitting its stride when Elba's Roland Deschain arrives in New York, drinks a coke for the first time, finds out he's got severe health problems and tells two hookers that they've forgotten the faces of their fathers.

There are also some neat action beats and it doesn't even begin to outstay its welcome, but few thought it was truly a good feat of filmmaking.
