17 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Fast & Furious Franchise

10. The Confusing Timeline

Few ever expected that the Fast and Furious franchise would end up with as confusing a chronology as it currently has. After Han (Sung Kang) is killed off in Tokyo Drift, Justin Lin screws with everything by bringing Han back for the fourth film, Fast and Furious, making it clear that the film is a prequel. Han also appears in the fifth and sixth films, again setting them as taking place before Tokyo Drift. The end of the sixth film, however, finally brings things full circle, with a brief flash to Tokyo showing Han's death in a new context (at the hands of Jason Statham), ensuring that Fast and Furious 7 will be the first legitimate sequel to Tokyo Drift. So, the timeline for this franchise is: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 3, 7, which for a series that invites casual audiences and asks viewers to switch their brains off, is surprisingly intricate. Had Fast and Furious made it clearer to audiences what was going on, then perhaps Han's "resurrection" wouldn't have proved quite so grating. Still, it was worth it in the end, and hopefully number seven will give audiences the payoff they've been waiting for.
