7. i, Robot - Converse
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HpIZrOH4zc As is a trend for sci-fi films these days, they always seem to include a few futuristic product placements to try and charm us and make us accept the apparent cleverness of the placement, but there's no accepting filmmakers who waste screen time having characters rabbit on about what they're wearing, watching, eating or drinking instead of, you know, getting on with the plot. Alex Proyas' not-bad i, Robot is a prime offender, devoting a small section of the film to Will Smith's protagonist exalting his "Converse, vintage 2004" low-tops, with Proyas pulling in close to focus on the shoe's logo at just about every opportunity. It's a shame Proyas couldn't find a way to be more artful or subtle about it, because there's a pretty good sci-fi actioner here screaming to get out, but all anyone talks about is that scene.
