17 Movies That Critics And Fans Just Didn't Agree On
16. Under The Skin
RottenTomatoes Score: 7.8
IMDB Score: 6.3
Critics tripped over themselves to praise Jonathan Glazer's mesmerising minimalist sci-fi movie, which fared decidedly less well with the general public.
Part of the problem here is most certainly the fact that word quickly got out about lead Scarlett Johansson appearing nude during the movie, which probably caused a decent number of casual moviegoers to watch the movie when they otherwise would have steered well clear.
To be fair to audiences, it's clear from the IMDB data that the 6.3 figure hasn't been manipulated or brigaded, with most viewers giving it a reasonable 7/10. As is often the case, it simply seems that the movie's slow-burn approach, lack of definitive answers and downer ending didn't click as much with regular moviegoers as it did more "discerning" critics.
