Won: Best Supporting Actor (Christopher Plummer), 2012 The film that finally rewarded veteran Christopher Plummer with the Oscar he probably should've won years before, Beginners saw the actor pick up the gong for Best Supporting Actor, beating out fellow veteran Max Von Sydow (for Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close) in the process. At 82, Plummer's win made him the oldest winner of a competitive Oscar, surpassing Jessica Tandy, who had previously won for Driving Miss Daisy in 1989. Surprisingly, despite having to date 203 credits on his filmography, Beginners, which sees Plummer play an elderly man who makes two massive announcements in that a) he has terminal cancer, and b) he's gay, was only the actor's second Oscar nomination, the first coming two years earlier for The Last Station.
