17 Superhero Movies That Were Nominated For Oscars
3. Spider-Man 2
Won: Best Achievement In Visual Effects
Nominated For: Best Achievement In Sound Mixing & Best Achievement In Sound Editing
Finally, a movie sourced from a Marvel comic book wins an Academy Award.
Unlike Suicide Squad, the Oscar here was well-deserved because Spider-Man 2 is better in every way than its predecessor, from the ace effects (check out Spidey's battle with Doc Ock that ends with Spidey having to stop a moving train) to the plotting and the characterization.
Written by Alvin Sargent (himself a two-time Oscar winner for Julia and Ordinary People), this is the most fluid, most fun incarnation of Spider-Man to date, devoid of the perfunctory plotting and action scenes that dog most of the other movies (worst offender: Spider-Man 3).
All eyes are on you, Spider-Man: Homecoming. You better be good, or if you can't be good, at least be better than The Amazing Spider-Man 2, okay?
