17 Things You Didn't Know About Austin Powers

6. Basil Exposition You're So Punny

Although it may be obvious to plenty of people that are well versed in film-making the name of Basil Exposition is a very funny, appropriate name and some people might not realize why. Exposition in film is a process whereby a character explains to the main character (and the audience) the background information required to understand the plot of the film and the circumstances that are occurring. This is especially prevalent in the James Bond films where a character, usually M, briefs 007 on the objective of his mission and then does not have much role in the rest of the movie except to provide exposition. So naming the character in this film who gives the exposition, Basil Exposition, is a very funny a clever gag by the writers of the Austin Powers films. Again some people may think this is obvious but I am sure many people do not even notice this.
