4. 2 Fast 2 Furious Had Improvised Jokes...And Stunts
John Singleton took a very different approach to 2 Fast 2 Furious than the first film's director, Rob Cohen, did. The Fast And The Furious had a little bit of improvisation, but Singleton encouraged his actors to just make stuff up all the time, with Paul Walker and Tyrese Gibson being especially eager to wander off-script. Many of the best line and funniest exchanges in the sequel were improvised. Singleton's idea was that, to keep the feel of the movie interesting, he should allow the actors to be a bit more loose and have fun with the material. Apparently the stunt drivers took notice of this loosey-goosey approach and decided they'd get in on it too. It's just that when you improvise stunts, it has greater repercussions than ten minutes of riffing on some dialogue. The part where the Corvette crashes into the Mustang on the freeway? Yeah, that wasn't planned. Some parts of the ending were not scripted either, so the actors just improvised. Miraculously, all the stunt men involved in these made-up scenes emerged unscathed, so maybe they had the right idea after all.
