4. The Battle Of New York - The Avengers

The Film

This was the moment it was all heading towards. Well, the first moment anyway. There have obviously been lots more since, but even when Captain America: The First Avenger came out, the very idea of an ensemble bringing together Marvel's finest in one event movie seemed unlikely.

But then, thanks to Loki's nefarious plan to take over Earth, the heroes united, with Hawkeye and a brand new (much improved) Hulk along for the ride. And boy did they hit their marks (tacked-on Chitauri invasion aside).

The Moment

There are lots of lovely moments in the first two acts of The Avengers (as you'd expect from a Joss Whedon picture), but it's that first opportunity we get to see all six of them teamed up for the first time on the wrecked streets of New York that absolutely does it. For fans, this was a moment worth shrieking for, and that knowing camera spin was absolutely the icing on the cake.

Strong points have to also go to Hulk's "that's my secret, Cap" moment and Loki versus Scarlet Witch in the Helicarrier battle of wits too.
