10. Mel Gibson - Daddy's Home 2

The Role: Mr. Mayron, the father of Dusty (Mark Wahlberg), who shows up for Christmas and has his own particular ideas about how Dusty should raise his children.

Why It's Unexpected: Until very recently, Mel Gibson was basically persona non grata in Hollywood, but the awards success of Hacksaw Ridge last year saw Hollywood welcome him back with open arms, and so it seems likely audiences will also be seeing more of Gibson in front of the camera over the next few years.

Considering most of his recent performances have been in straight-to-VOD movies, it'll still be weird seeing him in a theatrically-released film, a comedy even more so.

Will It Work?: Sure. It's a supporting role and Gibson can play the manic douchebag well because it's probably not a million miles removed from his real-life self, so he should bring some added value to a sequel few are surely otherwise anticipating.
