18 Insanely Messed Up Movies You Might Not Be Able To Handle

On the world stage, there are two masters of extreme, messed-up horror cinema. One is France, the other is Japan.

This story of a sudden outbreak of suicides across Japan (that seem to be linked to a certain pop group and a mysterious cult) is one of Japan's most infamous horror films and while it was immediately notorious for the opening, in which 54 schoolgirls cheerfully jump in front of a train (with very, very bloody results), the whole thing is messed up as hell.

Suicide Club is full of extremely graphic suicides, such as more kids jumping from a roof, people cutting themselves open, overdosing, hanging themselves and a woman cheerfully slicing her hand to pieces in a kitchen. Once the mysterious cult who seem to be behind everything shows up, rape and murder get thrown into the mix too. Make no mistake, this is a truly nasty film that'll leave you rattled.

It's not the easiest viewing, but this one is worth the effort. While confusing and occasionally meandering, Suicide Club is a fascinating, deliciously twisted, haunting and well-made work of surreal horror cinema and a minor J-Horror classic. Also, the pop song sung by the girl group that is linked to the suicides is actually really catchy.
