18 Insanely Messed Up Movies You Might Not Be Able To Handle

The House That Jack Built

Oldboy might be a masterpiece of world cinema, but it's not exactly the easiest of viewings.

Not only is this a brutally violent movie filled with self-mutilation, torture and murder, but it is an insanely miserable, depressing and disturbing look at the worst aspects of the human psyche and the futility of revenge in which two men, protagonist Oh Dae-su and antagonist Lee Woo-jin are utterly destroyed by their obsession with vengeance.

Oh yeah, and it's also the film in which a man is tricked into having sex with his own daughter, so that will make a particularly gruelling film for many, especially since it ends with Oh Dae-su having himself hypnotised in order to forget that the woman he loves is his daughter so that he can continue the relationship. There's also another hugely icky incest scene involving two other characters earlier on.

It's just a deeply sad film in which Dae-su goes through the wringer like few other film protagonists ever, while Lee Woo-jin is one of the sickest film villains you'll ever see.

Overall, Oldboy is about as good as a film can be, but more sensitive viewers should stay away.
