18 Insanely Messed Up Movies You Might Not Be Able To Handle

12. Hostel Part II

The House That Jack Built
Screen Gems

Eli Roth's (actually kind-of rubbish) Hostel had endured as one of the 21st century's most controversial horror films, but the sequel, in which three more luckless people end up in the clutches of Elite Hunting, is much nastier.

In terms of quality, Hostel Part II is actually pretty darn good thanks to the strong performances, dread-laced atmosphere and Eli Roth's unexpectedly smart script but it's extremely brutal. While the Saw movies usually give the victims an escape opportunity, here it's just people being restrained and helpless as they gruesomely tortured to death.

The film is made even more disturbing since it has likeable protagonists people won't want to see die, while the premise of an organisation where ordinary people pay for the chance to torture victims to death is incredibly unsettling.

This lives up to the 18 certificate and then some. A man is ripped apart by dogs, a guy (Viktor Krum from Harry Potter) is cannibalised (Cannibal Holocaust's director plays his killer... geddit?) and a torturer is castrated, but the worst fate is saved for poor Lorna (Heather Matarazzo), who's ironically the gentlest of the students.

Lorna is hung upside down above a bath while a woman gets in below her, slashes her repeatedly with a scythe in order to literally bathe in Lorna's blood and finally rips Lorna's throat open. Nasty.
