18 Mind-Blowing Facts About Blade Runner

4. Father Or F*cker

There’s a bit of confusion over exactly what Roy Batty says to his maker Dr Eldon Tyrell when the replicant confronts him in his luxurious apartment and depending on which version of Blade Runner you’ve seen it’s likely you’re a tad puzzled too.

Originally Rutger Hauer was instructed to end the line “I want more life” with a word that could sound like “father” or “f*cker”. In the theatrical version and Director’s Cut of Blade Runner, the version used sounds distinctly more like “f*cker” while in the Final Cut and quite a few TV broadcasts of the movie, it’s definitely “father”.

Both version work really well though. “F*cker” perfectly portrays Roy’s simmering anger at his limited lifespan, while “father” hints towards all kinds of Oedipal relations between Roy and Tyrell.
