18 More Things You Didn't Know About The Terminator
4. That Narrator Sounds Familiar
As incredible as The Terminator is, studio executives had no faith in it whatsoever and pulled a lot of promotions for the film when they saw a rough cut. Worse still, the producers put very little effort into the movie's trailer. Instead of coming across as an epic time-travelling thriller, it just looked like the typical run-of-the-mill schlock. (One of the only good things about the trailer is the nifty artwork on Arnold Schwarzenegger's face. You have to commend the artist for that at least.)
However, there is one mind-blowing element of the teaser that most viewers don't notice. The narrator of the trailer is none other than Peter Cullen. If that name doesn't ring a bell, Cullen provides the voice of Optimus Prime; the main character of the Transformers cartoons and films. What are the odds that both Peter Cullen and Arnold Schwarzenegger's most memorable role would be portraying a robotic protector that lives among humans by hiding in plain sight?
Weirder still, the original Transformers cartoon debuted in 1984; the same year The Terminator was released. In hindsight, it feels like serendipity that Cullen won the role of the narrator.
