18 More Things You Didn't Know About The Terminator
5. The Alternate Ending
In her final confrontation with The Terminator, Sarah crushes the monstrous machine under a hydraulic press. We then cut to several months later, where Sarah is travelling through Mexico. She is visibly pregnant and recording tapes for her son, John. A boy takes her picture, which turns out to be the same photo John Connor gave to Kyle Reese in the future. It's a perfect ending that feels like the story has come full circle.
But you may not know the film had an alternative ending that had a lot more... sequel bait. After Sarah destroyed The Terminator, we see two workers locate the robot's CPU chip, marvelling on how advanced it is. As Sarah is loaded onto an ambulance, the camera pans out, revealing that her encounter with the android took place in a building owned by Cyberdyne Systems; the same company that inevitably built Skynet.
James Cameron decided to cut this scene since he wanted some questions left unanswered so he could explore them in the sequel. Considering how well both films turned out, Cameron said he had no regrets whatsoever with scrapping this ending.
