18 Most Heartbreaking Moments In The MCU (So Far)
9. Frigga And Loki
Though Dark World isn't the best MCU film, it still gives fans a lot to love from the unique and fantastical world opened up by the first Thor film.
One of its brightest points was Frigga, Thor and Loki's mother. With this film taking place after Avengers, it's hard to imagine anyone treating Loki with trust and love after what he did, but Frigga defied all expectations.
She visits Loki in his cell, sending him gifts and spending time with him even when not physically there. Though Loki tries to push her away, she still clearly knows him well enough to know he doesn't really mean it.
A cut scene from the film shows that not only did Frigga project an illusion to spend time with her son, but also that she was the one who taught him magic in the first place, fully aware that he felt like he was in Thor's shadow, hoping her attention would make him feel special.
Their close relationship makes her death, and the subsequent beautiful and tragic Viking funeral, all the more meaningful. Loki pretends later that he's unaffected, only to reveal himself a devastated mess, not even allowed to attend his own mother's funeral.
