18 Most Heartbreaking Moments In The MCU (So Far)
7. "My Best Girl"
Another gut-punch in the long list of gut-punches in what is Steve Rogers's life, was the scene in Winter Soldier where he reunites with his first love, Peggy Carter.
It's a largely positive moment, with Steve spending time with an old, sickly Peggy, asking for her advice on how to deal with the issues he has to deal with and how to live his life in a future he's not used to. It's almost cathartic to see Steve be able to talk to her again, with her sharp mind and kindness still shining through.
The scene ends, however, with Peggy suddenly forgetting their entire conversation, or that Steve had come back at all. She begins to cry, wondering at Steve's return, telling him it's been so long, her mind clearly deteriorated to the point that she's losing a lot of her memory in bursts.
Even more heartbreaking, however, is Steve's ready response, indicating that this has happened before, enough that Steve knows what to say. Speaking of the dance he's never going to get, and how he couldn't leave his "Best Girl", a teary-eyed Steve Rogers reminds audiences just how much he's lost, even if not necessarily to death.
