15. John Ridley & Steve McQueen Blank Each Other At The Oscars
Eyebrows were raised at this year's Oscar ceremony when 12 Years A Slave screenwriter John Ridley went to accept the award for Best Adapted Screenplay and completely blanked director Steve McQueen while heading to the podium. He also failed to thank McQueen in his acceptance speech, leading to rampant speculation that a rift had taken place. As it turned out, this was correct: McQueen had requested a shared screenwriting credit for the film, but Ridley refused this, and when McQueen protested, Fox Seachlight sided with Ridley. This reportedly led to McQueen souring on Ridley and giving him an infamously sarcastic round of applause at the Oscars. Still, both Ridley and McQueen walked away with Oscars that night, so everyone won in the end, right?
